Thank you for this blog post! The more I’ve read about Calvin the past few years the more I see his system mirrors Roman Catholic theology, down to the banishments, torture, beheading, burnings. Though TULIP wasn’t his creation, as another poster stated, Calvin’s salvation is certainly a new gospel and therefore anathema. Having grown up under the heel of Calvinism and the emotive revival insanity of the 1970’s Graham Crusades, as a teenager in church, it left your mouth dry, your heart empty with a nighttime terror in the back of your subconscious that could not be extinguished. You were going to hell. You weren’t the elect. As Sproul stated from behind his pulpit at Ligonier, “you were never saved in the first place.” Sheer evil. Calvinism and it’s demonic offspring, Lordship, demanded fealty to man, systematized works as necessary for eternal life and leave the terrified believer with no assurance. It wasn’t until I finally let the true gospel message (Eph 2:8-9) wash over me that I could finally excise the demons of Calvinism, Lordship (MacArthur, Sproul, Washer, Comfort), false revivalism (Finney, Billy Graham, Big Eva Megachurches) and get on with my Christian life. Salvation is what Christ says it is, not ancient. But pedantic lawyers or slick megachurch pastors.

So why are we calling him a broken man instead of an evil man? If you put anyone else’s name in front of those horrible crimes you wrote about above, you would’ve called him evil

In reply to Jeremy Weart. Calvinism is heresy. It has contaminated modern seminaries. Nothing like calvinism to take Jesus out of the equation and squash the Holy Spirit in any church.

I agree with Amy. You portray this horrible man who brought this heretical form of Christianity that is confusing people to this day. An yet your “heart goes out to him”. That would be like saying “Mein Kempf” still brings people comfort. He resorted to terrorism to defend his opinions because they were false. What is really sad is that, like a snake, his philosophy still contaminates seminaries today.
