Granted you may not have thought they were being raped, but kids exhibit behaviours that are indicative of problems. Yes of course it is hard for you to lose a child and have the other be in her terrible situation and I am truly sorry for that.

But what about how terrible it was for THEM?? All for a stupid Catholic faith and an unwavering blind faith at that. Your kids must have shown signs of distress – yet you had no idea until they disclosed? You even took them to a psychiatrist. At no time did either of you take any responsibility for your lack of awareness. Did you have your head in the sand about priests? Seriously?

And you still talk about blessing people? God is a fiction of people’s imagination and you used it to ignore what was happening right under your noses. Plain and simple. Take some responsibility and leave god out of it. Yes these people betrayed your children and you. I feel for you, but not as much as I feel for your poor daughters.

It’s another reminder of David’s psalms of Lament, which remain pertinent today. Bless you Michael Frost.

Your words are like cool water. I’ve re-read this story four times, it just feels so nice to have someone say it. Pain and disillusionment don’t equal a loss of God nor does devistation and a loss of self. I don’t know why we want our God to be so small or why we feel so threatened by a thought like, “The Lord has delt bitterly with me”. As if he’s as fragile and fearful as we are. I’ve had sooo many Christians, in our signature cruelty, rush to God’s defense against my painful attempts to still find him. While that’s the barking majority, it’s exceedingly refreshing to have some use their wisdom and strength to beautifully say otherwise. Very much appreciate it.
