What about bad boys and countless other movies like that? This isn’t the first. It just shows how easily influenced society can be by big brother. I say this bc the reasoning and examples that people give for movies like Black Panther and Wonder Woman being so ground breaking falls apart when you look a little deeper at who the producers are. And who the people above them are. But races , sexes, and even classes of society have this same bickering back and forth about discrimination going on for decades. Wonder Woman had a 4 year tv series nobody seems to remember, but this movie was groundbreaking for women. It’s scary how easily we the human race can be kept in a perpetual state of illusion that have us seeing what they want us to see. I’m not arguing. I’m just saying Open your eyes a little wider. Think a little more broader.

I am so excited to see a movie of Superhero representing the African Ancestry, shows how Stan Lee and Jack Kirby was aware and conscience of the diversity of superheroes would look like. I grew up reading comics with my older siblings, and it gave us a sense of belonging and felt good to know superheroes are not one dimensional in race or ethnicity. The superhero’s that got mainstream recognition put a shadow over superhero’s like the Black Panther, but he is still a superhero none the less.

Although, that’s not what’s happening here. This isn’t a film in which either white or black actors could have been cast, but they chose to use black actors. It is a DISTINCTLY black film. So race DOES matter in this case. It’s just that it’s an example of the dominant (or privileged) race not being represented.

It’s too bad Hollywood has such a narrow view of American culture that they limit parts to certain races. I’m super excited to see new directors like Tre Johnson stepping out of the racial constrictions of the traditional film industry and not letting race dictate what kind of film roles goes to which race of actor.
