Without a choice you are born, deep in a pile of zeitgeist.
Buzzing with philosophers, politicians and preachers.
Swarming with scavengers, snide and scornful.
Pungent with the sickly sweet odour of a city dump.

The rotting heap is heaving with someone’s muffled screaming.
A fist punches through then your face,
Shouting, bleeding, gasping gagging, sucking in the air!
Shouting, bleeding, gasping gagging, sucking in the air!
You! don’t belong! You! don’t belong! in this sagging jumble of fetid plastic.

Fairy stories playing in your head!
Staring through the bars of a prison for the dead!

Secretly, longingly, turning the pages of beautiful photography
Sucking the bottle of borrowed biography
Your restless, hungry eyes tell the story
Enough! Of second-hand life.

Mocking death spits it in your face:

Earlier in my life, when Children’s Ministry was all the Rage, I gathered together a few Characters from Sesame Street and did 5 minute Puppet Plays for Children, but the Adults like them just as much! I also, ran Puppet Workshops half days across Victoria, so other Churches could develop their Children’s Ministry…Oscar the Grouch lived in his Bin, then Cookie Monster, Big Bird and others would be part of the Christian Message…

During College, I used Puppets when Head Santa @ Myer Chadstone, to encourage kids who were at that age of being scared of Santa to come and have a photo taken. It worked a treat!

Later, during 2 Units of CPE-Clinical Pastoral Education@ the world renowned Peter McCallum Cancer Institute, while serving as a Hospital Chaplain at both Peter Mac and the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. I was the first in Australia to Pioneer”Puppet Therapy.”
As a Member of Patient Care Teams, I used “Puppet Therapy” as part of my Pastoral Care to ascertain how children were feeling about their Hospitalisation with extraordinary results of calming children down, stopped them from crying, put smiles on their faces, and importantly found out what specific part of being in Hospital were they afraid; and this was passed onto all other Members of the Patient Care Team.

And have used them since as part of my Pastoral Care of children and families…
