I too have an iron from my childhood home. I am also walking this last journey with my mother. It isn’t easy as there are only glimpses of the strong independent woman she once was. But every now and then she shines through. Memory is a powerful thing and momentos are the things that evoke it. Thanks for sharing your lovely story. Let’s continue to honour these amazing women in our lives.

At the moment I (52) am trying to accompany my parents (89/87) struggling with some afflictions as dementia or lung cancer, being aware that for both of them the “last door” is at least unlocked, not daring to say, there is a tiny ray of light to be seen through a first chink. And it´s my Mom with “the” voice within this lovely old couple, as my Dad is quite silent – we hear the same life stories of her feelings of inferiority once a week, quite exhausting – but yes, it´s all about grace, dignity and feminism. Would have been glad, if she had such a symbol of Independence. So, here it is: Amen 🙂
