Thank you for writing this. When I hear people say she should smile more, not wear pantsuits etc., it blows my mind. No one would say any of those things to a man. I’d take it a step further and say that if Mrs. Clinton had answered her questions in the debate using the same tone, lack of sentence structure and inflection as Mr. Trump, pundits and citizens would be saying she was a bitch. We women walk a fine line between appearing nasty and feminine. I’d like to know why our words cannot just be taken as wise and smart (when they are, of course). We face this nameless sexism every day and it needs to end.

This is painful poetry: Women live with an infinite number of hierarchy-building double standards based solely on gender, most of which restrict their free expression and their ability to achieve in their chosen fields in equal measure to men.

But seriously, there is a school of thought that when a nation elects a leader very unlike any leader beforehand they feel they've done enough in opening the door to minorities (or women) and quickly close it again. If America elects its first female president to succeed its first black president that will be quite something.
