It was like watching a movie that was trying to be a blaxsplotation movie from the 1970’s; that was directed by an angry elderly man that was trying to recite a list of all the thing he doesn’t like by memory.

Marvels Black Panther did more for explaining the disconnection racism in America than this turd.

The closing song, sung by Johnny Cash; There will be peace in the valley some day” is a prayer of hope for us all.

I just watched Sweet Country…the end got me. The part of the movie I liked best was when Fred Smith, Sam’s ‘boss’, is walking away and in the background a storm has occurred. Sam is saying to himself “Why hope have we got, what hope has this country got”? As he is saying this you see a huge bright rainbow against the background of the storm – what a message! There’s our hope.

Here’s a slightly more challenging list if your crew are up for some non-mainstream fare: https://mikefrost.net/three-films-might-make-believe-god/

We’re wanting to run a couple of movie nights at our parish and I hope we can get to two or three of these over the next couple fo years.

I do however take issue with the notion that belief in rainbows is a naivety – I’ve seen them. I’ve seen multiple rainbows. I will never be shaken from my sincere and radical belief in rainbows.

Well, then you won’t last 5 minutes without crying.

I have yet to see any of these movies, but one stands out – “Won’t you be my Neighbor”. Born in 1960, I grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and was fortunate to watch Mr. Rogers Neighborhood on it’s producing station, WQED, from the very beginning. And as a further benefit, my mother, as a kindergarten teacher and child psychologist had many personal contacts with Mr. Rogers – “Fred” as she knew him over her long career. He was a most civil and loving man, always kind. I will see the movie soon I’m sure and most likely will have tears as well, remembering.
Thanks for taking the time to share some positive entertainment options. Lord knows we have enough of the other kind flying around…
