Led to some really good conversations.

I remember my mother, who died at home of metastatic breast cancer when I was 13. She was always kind and loving. The rest of my family barely knew how to deal with her terminal illness. This was before hospices. They thought I did not know what was happening and she was too ill or too frightened (of them?) and of the family to share with me. Of course, I knew! I think she knew that I realised. The understanding of bright teenagers is often underestimated. Now, sixty-three years later, writing this can bring tears to my eyes although I am stable and well-adjusted . I am a 76 year old retired doctor, happily married with two adult children and myself a cancer patient, coping quite well a blood cancer from which I have had excellent treatment and is now under control after 16 years, not available15 years ago, never mind in in the 70s when I qualified. It was mainly this early experience that made me decide to become a doctor. There were no doctors in the family. In General Practice, I took a particular interest in terminal care.

More and more, all the time, I realize the power of a visual lands in our global cultures more than words do. It translates better too. 🙂

Blessings brother
