My Most Popular Posts So Far

I started blogging less than six months ago and I don’t know why I didn’t do it earlier. I’m having a blast. It takes some discipline to try to regularly write meaningful content in beautiful ways, but I’ve been delighted by the huge response it’s receiving. So far I’ve posted 50 articles on everything from Star Wars to Botticelli, from Donald Trump to John Calvin, from the missional movement to bald presidents (I have diverse interests).

As I’m hitting the road on a speaking tour I won’t have the time to produce any new posts for a while, so I thought I’d share with you links to the five most popular posts from one to five. Thanks for reading.

1. YEP, MEANINGFUL PUBLIC DISCOURSE IS DEAD

This article reflected on a social media conversation I had with someone after Meryl Streep’s famous takedown of Donald Trump at the Golden Globe awards ceremony. In it I outlined why I think public discourse is so difficult these days.  The reaction to this post was phenomenal. It really struck a chord for many readers. And it annoyed a bunch of others who just wanted to argue whether Trump was actually mocking a reporter’s disability or not (groan).

2.  <a href="https://mikefrost.net/homepage/not-liberal-agenda-gospel/”>IT’S NOT A LIBERAL AGENDA, IT’S THE GOSPEL!

Here I expressed my frustration that advocating for refugees, championing the plight of indigenous peoples, and insisting on greater social equity for the poor have been caricatured (and therefore dismissed) as a liberal agenda. I’m desperate for social justice to be seen as a central aspect of gospel ministry, not some left-wing program, and for that I just keep getting called a libtard.

 3. WE CHEER FOR ROGUE ONE BUT WE’RE REALLY ON THE EMPIRE’S SIDE

This was another post that became crazy popular really quickly. I’d just seen Rogue One and found it ironic that so many people who cheer for subversive revolutionaries on screen are so critical of any denunciation of government policy in real life. Maybe we’ve been won over to the dark side.

4. I AM THE DIRECT BENEFICIARY OF WHITE PRIVILEGE

This was an early post, and it was pretty personal. In it I described how my father was lifted out of working class poverty by virtue of the government assistance afforded to returned servicemen after WWII. Because such assistance was not readily available to indigenous Australians, I question the middle class mantra that hard work alone can bring you prosperity in this country. The P-word is not popular so there was some strong reaction to this article.

5.  THE LOST ART OF NEIGHBORING

I wrote this is response to the murder-suicide of a whole family in a sleepy middle class neighborhood not far from where I live. A guy rigged up his whole house as a gas chamber to kill himself, his wife and his two kids. And no one noticed anything. For days. Hurting suburban people are surrounded by neighbors, very few of whom actually know how to be neighborly.

  2. Hi MIke,

I’m with Al Hirsch – I love reading your thoughts. It’s refreshing to hear someone in the Christian sphere speaking up about many issues on which the Church has become ominously silent (I sent you an email basically saying the same).

    Thanks again.
